Lot 8

Lot Description

George III silver pedestal cream jug, with engraved monogram to the plain bulbous body below a punched beaded rim, with a leaf capped scroll handle and raised above a domed circular foot.  Hallmarked Charles Hougham, London 1786.  Height including handle measures 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm), weight 2.25 ozt (70 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The jug displays general wear and areas of heavy tarnishing.  There are also general surface marks and scratches, minor nicks and surface dints, all commensurate with the age and use.  There are some larger dints to some areas, especially around the main rim and the foot rim.  The foot rim is now quite misshapen, and there is loss of detail to the rim, which was probably once beaded.  Flood of solder at base of the handle, possibly indicating a repair?  Hallmarks are a little rubbed but still legible.
