Lot 8

Lot Description

George III silver cruet stand, of bulbous oblong form with gadrooned border to the curved rim, engraved monogram to one side and the whole raised above four splayed bracket feet, hallmarked London 1813, maker's mark partly obscured but tentatively attributed to Charles Fox I, the main frame containing three glass bottles with stoppers, two glass casters with pierced silver lids and a further glass bottle with silver hinged lid, all hallmarked London 1813, and a condiment spoon, hallmarked Birmingham, probably 1825 (the central upright stem and handle is unmarked).  Maximum height including handle measures 8 inches (20.3 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The cruet stand displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  There is also some tarnishing to the silver.  The main frame displays some small surface dints and nicks.  There is a small area of creases in the metal above the monogram and some further similar areas around the body.  A seam line is visible and there is a possible repair to one foot.  Central handle is unmarked and is a likely replacement as the ring mark visible on the wooden base does not conform with the base of the handle.  Hallmarks are quite worn but still legible, maker's mark is very distorted.  A split in the metal on one of the silver lids.  Some wear to hallmarks on the silver lids but all still legible.  Glass displays minor rim and edge nicks and some larger chips to the rims of the bottles with stoppers.
