An early 19th century oak-cased 8-day painted dial longcase clock.
The 13-inch break-arched white Roman dial with subsidiary seconds and calendar dials, signed "JAS. AITKEN MARKET H.", within tulip spandrels, the arch painted with a lion in a landscape, the movement (no false-plate) rack-striking on a bell, the break-arched case with gilt finials over turned columns, arched long trunk door between fluted quadrant columns, and plain base on apron, 82", (208cm) high.
It is likely that this clock was made by James Aitken of Markinch, Scotland, and the town name erroneously re-blacked at a later date.
