Lot 322

Lot Description

A nineteenth century French silver small beaker, of lobed outline below an everted rim, decorated with alternating panels of diamond cross-hatching and wavy lines, also with floral motifs, struck with the Minerva guarantee mark in an octagonal punch and maker's mark for Philippe Berthier (1841-1851). Together with a tea strainer with foliate moulded handle and rest with gilded interior, struck 'AB MS' to the underside. Height of beaker measures 2 3/8 inches (6 cm), weight 33.6 grams.

Both items display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Some surface dints and bumps are visible to the beaker, especially around the lobed lower body.  Some loss of detail to decoration.  Struck marks are clear and legible.  Tea strainer displays some wear to gilding, mainly around the edge.
