An unusual oak-cased tortoiseshell and coral model sailing boat. Perhaps representing the dragon boat of the Eight Immortals, the sail with Japanese mon motif, the tortoiseshell prow filled with precious objects (perhaps from Buddhist or Taoist religion) including white and pink coral, palm leaves, model drum, vase, mallet etc., the boat with cockerel prow having pearl-set wings, on a plush base textured to simulate waves, presentation plaque for the Golden Jubilee of the Nissan Fire & Marine Insurance Co. Ltd., 6.75" long x 8" high, (17cm x 20cm), within an oak five-glass case with mirrored back, 15" x 12" x 15" high, (38cm x 30.5cm x 38cm).
