Lot Description
An Edwardian Scottish silver mounted horse hoof ink well, the silver inkwell with hinged lid inscribed '"Duckling" 1908', moulded to a horse's hoof complete with iron horse shoe. Hallmarked Mackay & Chisholm, Edinburgh 1908. Height of inkwell 3 1/8 inches (8 cm).

Condition Report
The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with age and use. There are small dents and deeper scratches to the silver body, particularly to the reverse. The lid does not close flush but the hinge is in working order. There is significant scratching, discolouration and wear around the screws attaching the silver to the horse hoof, possibly replacement screws and one missing. Glass liner to the inkwell is missing. The hallmarks are slightly rubbed but clear and legible. The hoof itself is discoloured, marked, pitted and it has shrunk away from the rusted shoe, it has also begum to deteriorate to the underside.
