Lot 352

Lot Description

A continental table bell, possibly eighteenth century Dutch, decorated with applied swag motifs to the main body and with a foliate scroll handle.  Struck marks to the interior, probably the Rotterdam city mark and the Province of Holland standard mark of a crowned Lion Rampant, also a date letter and a maker's mark. Maximum height 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), gross weight 8.18 ozt (254.5 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The bell displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Some dints and bumps and small repairs and visible solder.  Replacement clapper, clearly visible to the interior, and the end section appears to bear a lion passant mark.  A couple of gouges in the metal to the interior.  Some partial distortion to the marks, the date letter is possibly 'F' and the maker's mark possibly reads 'BL'?
