Lot Description

A Victorian pair of silver open salts of oval hollow pebble form with silver-gilt interiors, crested. Hallmarked London 1874, the maker's mark S.V and also marked Widdowson & Vale, 73 Strand. Maximum width measuring 3 inches (8 cm), gross weight 3.6 ozt (112 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Numerous shallow dints and dents. Crests heavily worn with loss of detail. Gilding to the centre appears bright. The hallmarks a little rubbed but overall clear and legible, Widdowson to one appears over-stamped.
