Lot Description

Two early twentieth century silver vesta cases, one engraved with a foliate motif with a vacant corner cartouche to either side, hallmarked JV, Birmingham 1902, the second with vertical engine turned detail and a vacant circular cartouche to the front, hallmarked Joseph Gloster Ltd, Birmingham 1919. Combined weight 48.7 grams. (2).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with age and use. The first case is heavily tarnished and discoloured, with a crack to the seam from one corner extending across the lid, the body also a little concave in areas and the hinge a little loose towards the closed position. Loss of detail to the second example, a small dent to one side and mark to the front, hinge in good working order.
