Lot 27

Lot Description

An eighteenth century silver mug, likely George III, of baluster outline above a skirted base, with a foliate capped double scroll handle and later chased and embossed with floral motifs and scrolls surrounding a monogrammed asymmetric cartouche. Remnants of hallmarks only, the leopard's head and part of the lion passant and a date letter are visible. Height measures 4 5/8 inches (11.8 cm), weight 9.85 ozt (306.5 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The mug displays general wear including surface scratches, marks, slight dints/knocks and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The foot rim is a little uneven and some small splits/ cracks starting to appear. Some damage and repairs to the base, visible as floods of solder. It is possible that a small piece has been 'let in' as a small patch is visible to the interior. These repairs are partly obscuring the hallmarks.
