Lot Description

A George III silver coffee pot, of baluster form above a spreading footed base, engraved family crest to one side and pine cone finial to the hinged cover, probably later decorated throughout with floral and foliate scrolls, the leaf capped scroll handle of a later date. Hallmarked John Payne, London 1765, the handle struck with the lion passant, a William IV Duty Mark and a maker's mark for J Wrangham & William Moulson. Maximum height 10 inches (25.5 cm), gross weight 32 ozt (996.5 grams).

The coffee pot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some dints and bumps. The hinged lid appears in working order although it does not sit completely flush. The hallmarks are located to the underside and also repeated to the interior of the lid, some slight distortion but mainly clear and legible. The handle section is a later replacement.
