Lot 42

Lot Description

A William IV Irish silver coffee pot of bellied form, decorated with a band of flower heads and leafy stems and with twin opposed cartouche, one crested and the other vacant, having a fruiting vine finial to the hinged lid and further floral and foliate motifs to the handle, applied rim and foot, the handle also with ivory insulators. Hallmarked James Le Bas, Dublin 1832. Maximum height including finial measures 9 inches (23 cm), gross weight 37 ozt (1150.8 grams).

Export issue: Yes

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The coffee pot displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. Heavy tarnishing is visible throughout and it would benefit from a clean and polish. The decoration appears in good condition. Likely solder repair at the base of the handle. Small dints and bumps visible to some areas and some knocks around the rim of the lid. The hinged lid appears in working order although it does not sit completely flush so that a small gap remains when closed. The fixing pins on the handle are loose so that the ivory insulators and handle are now a little loose.  Remnants of a sticker mark and residues of polish to some areas. The hallmarks are located to the underside and are clear and legible, slight distortion to maker's mark. Further Duty mark to handle and interior of lid.
