Lot Description

An Edwardian silver canoe pin cushion and ceramic scent bottle, the silver stylised canoe with purple velvet cushion, together with an Edwardian transfer print and painted ceramic circular scent bottle with silver lid. Pin cushion hallmarked Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings Shepherd, Birmingham 1902. Length of pin cushion 5 inches (12.8 cm). (2).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Scent bottle shows few scratches to the paint. The lid shows numerous dents. Hallmarked Birmingham, 1902, maker's marks rubbed, illegible. Diameter of bottle 1 5/8 inches (4.2 cm). The pin cushion is mounted on a roughly shaped wooden block, with old glue to the base, the block and cushion currently come away from the silver. Approximate weight of silver in canoe 30.1 grams. Significant wear and fading to the velvet.
