Lot 502

Lot Description

A French silver twin-handled sucrier and cover of bulbous and rounded square form to a footed base, decorated with foliate scroll panels, two with engraved monograms. Struck to both parts with the Minerva standard mark, the base also struck with a maker's mark for Edmond Tetard (Paris 1880-1903). Maximum height including finial measures 5 7/8 inches (15 cm), weight 17.81 ozt (554 grams).

The sucrier displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use. It is heavily tarnished and quite dull in appearance and would benefit from a clean and polish. Also heavy staining to the interior and residues of sugar. The lid sits well. In addition to the Minerva mark and maker's mark, the base is also marked 'Lautier Orfevre Toulouse (?).
