Lot 58

Lot Description

A Victorian silver coffee pot of bellied form, having floral and scroll embossed decoration throughout surrounding twin cartouche, one with engraved family crest and the other a chinoiserie scene depicting three figures, the whole with a wrythen finial to the domed and hinged lid, a foliate capped handle and raised on four scrolled feet. Hallmarked Joseph Angell II, London 1851. Maximum height including finial measures 10 5/8 inches (27 cm), gross weight 31.65 ozt (984.4 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The coffee pot displays general wear such as surface scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Engraved crest is now very worn. Some flattening and slight loss of surface detail to embossed decoration and likely small solder repairs to heads of two figures. Further possible solder repairs around the fixing pins at the joins of the handle and insulators. Circular construction line visible to the underside. One foot is slightly compressed so that it now wobbles a little when in the standing position. Hinged lid appears in working order. Some rubbing but the hallmarks are still legible, also part hallmarks to handle, lid and finial. Also with retailer's impressed mark to the underside.
