A 19th century prisoner of war work straw box. Of rectangular book form, the hinged cover with central lozenge shaped painted panel within multiple borders, with conforming underside, the short sides with similar vignettes, 6" x 4.25" x 2.25" (15cm x 11cm x 5.5cm).
