A late Victorian carved oak stick barometer
Hill, Birmingham
The break-arched and flowerhead-carved pediment over ivory two-piece canted dial inscribed “HILL No.17 GEORGE ST PARADE BIRMINGHAM”, reading from 27 to 31 inches of pressure, with twin verniers for 9 A.M. Yesterday and Today flanking partially exposed main tube, the caddy-moulded trunk with ivory knobs, carved capital and scrolls over mercury thermometer reading from 30 to 100 Fahrenheit and 0 to 30 Celsius, the cistern cover with carved flowerhead, scrolls and pokerwork, 42”, (107cm) high.

Ivory scales are discoloured, minor crack to ivory roof panel. Thermometer glass has slipped slightly (frame loose). Trunk has losses to pediment (arch and back corner).
