Lot 88

Lot Description

A George III silver entree dish and cover of octagonal sided form with reeded borders, the cover engraved with two slightly differing armorials and having a matched George IV silver handle with foliate moulded decoration. Hallmarked Henry Green, London 1796, handle hallmarked London 1823. Length of base measures 12 1/8 inches (31 cm), weight 39.77 ozt (1237 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The dish displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Numerous heavier scuffs and deeper scratches and nicks. Solder repairs to one of the armorials and the metal feels quite thin in places. The repair is also visible to the interior along with creases in the metal. The handle is a later matched one but appears to fit quite well. The hallmarks appear a little rubbed but all are legible. Makers mark to handle is partly worn.
