A George III silver nutmeg grater, the octagonal sided form with hinged cover and base decorated with stippled and punched decorative borders, and opening to a metal grate. Hallmarked Peter & Ann Bateman, London 1798. Length measuring 4.5 cm, gross weight 31.4 grams.

Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying general wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. General surface scratches and contact marks are visible and also a few minor surface dints and bumps. Hinges appear in good working order. Rust and staining visible to grate. Hallmarks are mostly clear and legible, also part hallmarks to base and a rubbed lion passant just visible to one side.
