Lot Description
An early 19th century mahogany cased eight day painted dial longcase clock, W. Underhill Newport, the 14 inch break arch dial with Arabic chapter ring framing subsidiary seconds dial and calendar crescent above inscribed makers name, the spandrels painted with figures representing the seasons, the arch with lunar calendar over rolling moon phase painted with sailing ship and cottage, above terrestrial hemispheres, the knopped four pillar movement with false plate cast Kempson & Felton, rack striking on a bell, the case with swan neck pediment and goncalo alves crossbanding, the conforming trunk with shaped short door between quadrant columns on a matching base and ogee bracket feet, 91" (231cm).

Condition Report
Dial has general light staining, crazing and hairlines, missing hand to subsidiary dial, moon phase wheel broken in two and repaired, paint faded to cottage scene and one moon, some flaking to spandrels, movement was probably dipped some years ago, movement not currently operation, hour hand not advancing and so moon phase not tested. Case is slightly trimmed to top of swan neck pediment, missing centre finial, minor cracking and losses to hood door, split to panel below trunk door and similar minor creasing to base panel, otherwise case in good colour and condition.
