Lot Description

A mid-twentieth century novelty silver dish, the plain oblong curved form modelled as a boat with trestle feet, hallmarked Albert Edward Jones, Birmingham 1966, possibly designed by Geoffrey Bellamy. Maximum width measures 5 1/8 inches (13cm), weight 2.03 ozt (63.65 grams).

Geoffrey Bellamy (1922-1997) served in the RAF during WWII. After the war he studied at the Birmingham College of Art (1946-1950), and then the Royal College of Art (1950-1953). He started his own one-man workshop in London, and is known to have designed for A E Jones.

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Heavier areas of rubbing to the underneath of each end and interior of the dish with some loss of definition to the edges. Hallmarks rubbed but still clear and legible.
