Lot 480

Lot Description

A late Victorian silver playing card case, of rectangular form with an inset bevelled glass panel to the front, the side panels and reverse decorated with floral and foliate scrolls in low relief against a stippled ground, the plain hinged lid opening to a twin compartment interior. Hallmarked Samuel Jacob, London 1900. Measuring 3 inches (7.5 cm) by 2 1/8 inches (5.5 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The case displays general wear, tarnishing, surface marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Heavier tarnishing and staining to interior and would benefit from a clean. Heavier wear and some nicks around edges and corners. The glass panel is quite loose. Hinged lid appears in good working order, although a small gap remains on one side when in closed position. Hallmarks are clear and legible including part hallmarks to lid. Also with a registration number. Also with some playing cards, mostly in poor condition.
