Lot Description
A Victorian silver lockable tea caddy, the octagonal-sided form with beaded rim and spreading to a scrolled edge base, having engraved strapwork style decoration throughout surrounding a monogrammed and dated cartouche to the front and crested cartouche verso, the domed and stepped hinged lid similarly decorated with gourd shape knop and opening to a twin compartment interior. Hallmarked Joseph Angell II, London 1852. Maximum height including finial measuring 7 1/4 inches (18.5 cm), weight 18.11 ozt (563.2 grams).

Condition Report
The tea caddy appears in good overall condition, displaying some general tarnishing and surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. A few very slight surface dints and some surface nicks or pitting marks visible to some areas. Hinged lid appears in good working order and sits flush to the main body, although the hinge pin is protruding on one side. Heavier tarnishing to the underside. Also some heavier staining/tarnishing to interior. Dint to flange of lid from where it has made continual contact with dividing panel when opening and closing. Presentation monogram engraving dated December 5th 1854. Also with impressed retailer's mark to underside 'J Mayer Silversmith Liverpool'. Missing key. Main hallmarks are located to underside and are clear and legible. Corresponding part hallmarks to various parts, all legible.
