Lot Description

A silver mounted and tortoiseshell capstan inkwell, the circular filled base with ribbon and reed decoration, leading to a similarly decorated circular hinged cover with inlaid garland swags, opening to reveal a glass ink pot. Hallmarked Birmingham, date illegible, maker's mark possibly Cohen & Charles. Height measuring 2 inches (5 cm).

In fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The interior is heavily tarnished and stained, the glass pot is stained with blue ink and would benefit from a clean, the interior lining is cracked and starting to lift. Hallmarks rubbed and worn, date letter illegible, maker's mark possibly Cohen & Charles, no partial hallmarks to the hinged cover.
