Lot Description

A George III Irish silver soup ladle, in Old English pattern with shell bowl, florally engraved stem and vacant scrolled cartouche to terminal. Hallmarks very worn but likely Dublin with maker's mark MC struck twice alongside a further indistinct mark, no visible date letter. Length measuring 15 inches (38 cm), weight 6.97 ozt (216.6 grams).

The ladle displays general expected surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Also some tarnishing. Some minor dints and edge nicks. The metal of the stem appears much thinner towards the terminal and there is some heavier wear around the edge. The bowl had generally faired quite well. Some rubbing and slight loss of detail to areas of the decoration. Hallmarks are very worn.
