Lot Description

A selection of items to include an Edwardian silver cigar cutter (A/F), of typical form with hammered finish, hallmarked Arthur Downing Ltd., Birmingham 1908, length measuring 4.5 cm. Together with a white metal filigree card case, of rectangular form with applied filigree dragon and birds motifs within a central panel, the slide off cover with vacant cartouche, appears unmarked, a 1920's silver mounted and tortoiseshell clothes brush, a matched cased set of six 1930's silver teaspoons, etc. Gross weighable silver 2.6 ozt (82.5 grams).

In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The cigar cutter does not appear to be in working order, the cutter mechanism is stuck inside and appears rusted, requires attention, there is an additional date letter of an 'E' alongside the hallmarks. The filigree case has some splits and holes to the outer border, parts missing to the applied filigree motifs, there is an applied character mark along the base. Three of the spoons are hallmarked C T Burrows & Sons (Charles Turman Burrows), Birmingham 1931, the other three are hallmarked Purcell Brothers, Birmingham 1930, the fitted case is significantly discoloured to the interior, with minor scuffs and marks to the outer. The silver mount on the clothes brush is creased and dented, with a sticker attached to the tortoiseshell, the bristles are discoloured and worn. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
