Lot Description
An Austro-Hungarian silver box, of rectangular form with radiating yellow guilloche enamelled decoration surrounded by a blue enamel Greek-Key style border, the hinged lid with an inset circular black and white photographic enamel portrait of a dog, beneath a glass aperture within an applied laurel wreath. Marked with Austro-Hungarian assay marks, including the Dianakopf mark (1872-1922) for 900 fineness, alongside an indistinct maker's mark. Width measures 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), weight 5.6 ozt (176.2 grams).

Condition Report
In fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Significant damage, chips and losses to the enamelled decoration with noticeable surface scratches. Also some losses to the enamel either side of the dog portrait. The box does not shut fully flush. The gilt interior is tarnished and stained. Marked with Austro-Hungarian assay marks, including the Dianakopf mark (1872-1922) for 900 fineness, possibly looks like an 'A' for Vienna, alongside an indistinct maker's mark, the lid and base are also marked with the numbers '227'.
