A George IV silver vinaigrette, the top of the oblong form with an applied floral sprig, the base with engraved foliate motifs surrounding a vacant cartouche, opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior with a scroll pierced grille, hallmarked Thomas & William Simpson, Birmingham 1821, width measures 2.7 cm. Together with a mid-Victorian silver vinaigrette, of oblong wavy edge form, with engine-turned and reeded decoration surrounding a vacant cartouche, opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior with scroll pierced grille, with attached base metal chain, hallmarked Robert Thornton, Birmingham 1872. Condition Report
In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minor bumps to the George IV example, the grille hinge has a gap beneath it but the grille shuts flush, minor loss of definition to the applied floral sprig. The Victorian example has an attached base metal chain, the grille when opened catches slightly on the top, the interior base is lined with material which appears stuck down, the grille does not shut fully flush. Hallmarks clear and legible.
