Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver caddy spoon, of Fiddle pattern with initialled terminal leading to a fluted shell bowl, hallmarked Josiah Williams & Co (James & Josiah Williams), Exeter 1864, length measuring 3 6/8 inches (9.6 cm). Together with a Victorian silver caddy spoon, of double struck King's pattern with fluted shell bowl, hallmarked Emanuel Brothers (Harry Emanuel), assumed London, date letter partly obscured possibly 1858. Gross weight 32.9 grams. (2).

In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The Exeter example is engraved 'JJE' above a 'K'? to the terminal, heavier tarnishing to the fluting, hallmarks clear and legible. There is some black marks to the bottom of the stem on the other caddy spoon, slight variation to the double struck King's pattern, the hallmarks are obscured by the fluting on the bowl, but partial monarch's head, date letter and lion passant visible, no town mark but maker's mark clear and legible.
