Lot Description
A late Victorian silver combination vesta and sovereign case, of oblong dual hinged form with engraved scroll decoration surrounding a monogrammed central cartouche, the press release opening to reveal an engine-turned plated sprung platform holder for a full sovereign, the opposing end with striker to the cover. Hallmarked Hayes Brothers, Birmingham 1897. Length of case measures 2 5/8 inches (6.7 cm), gross weight 35.3 grams.

Condition Report
In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The sprung platform holder is not hallmarked and looks later replaced. Some sideways movement to the hinged cover of the sovereign compartment, the vesta hinged cover does not shut fully flush. Some scratch marks near the press release. Hallmarks slightly rubbed but still legible, partial hallmarks to various sections.
