Lot Description
An early Victorian silver-gilt vesta box with cigar cutter, of rounded oblong and engine-turned form with striker along the back edge, the hinged cover with engraved crested oval cartouche and piercer, opening to reveal two interior compartments. Hallmarked Benjamin Barling, London 1855. Width measures 3.5 cm, weight 14.6 grams.

Condition Report
In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The oval cartouche is engraved with a male head above a castle which has minor loss of definition. Minor wear to the striker along the back edge. Minor split to the suspension loop. Some rubbing to the base of the box along the compartment line. Hallmarks clear and legible, the interior is further marked 'Beynon & Stocken 10 Gracechurch Street London'.
