Lot Description
A late Victorian silver cigar case, of oblong form with engraved scroll decoration surrounding a monogrammed cartouche, opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior with engraved personal inscription. Hallmarked Walker & Hall, Sheffield 1900. Length measures 4 7/8 inches (12.3 cm), weight 5 ozt (156.8 grams).

Condition Report
In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some minimal loss of definition to the decoration. The case shuts fully flush and the press release is in good working order. The interior is engraved 'Presented to Malcolm Dillon Esq. Together with a Silver Cigarette Case & a Silver Card Case By the Habitués of The Billiard Room, Jarrow Mechanics Institute as a token of appreciation for his interest in their welfare & comfort. 2nd December 1901.' The silver-gilt interior is dull in places, has a surface mark from a possible sticker and a heavy area of scratches to the left of the inscription, also missing its elastic band. Hallmarks clear and legible.
