Lot 381

Lot Description

A late Victorian silver card case, of oblong engine-turned form with scalloped edge and central cartouche with engraved date, hallmarked George Unite & Sons, Birmingham 1881, maximum height measuring 4 inches (10.2 cm). Together with an Edwardian silver pebble snuff box, of oval hinged form with engraved leaf decoration surrounding a monogrammed cartouche, hallmarked E J Trevitt & Sons, Chester 1905. Gross weight 3.9 ozt (121.9 grams). (2).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The cartouche on the card case is engraved '1882'. Some minor loss of definition to the engine-turned and engraved decoration. The front piece of the card case slightly dips so the top edge of the lower case and lower edge of the hinged cover do not align flush but it does shuts securely, just a little stiff. The press release mechanism on the snuff box is not functioning properly and has possibly been replaced, with some minor compression to the cover from the interior hinge. Some minor bumps to the body and areas of discolouration. Some file marks visible beneath the rim of the cover with crude solder around the catch which looks to have been repaired/replaced. Remnants of polish visible. Hallmarks clear and legible, partial hallmarks to hinged covers.
