Lot Description

A George III silver vinaigrette, the oval form with stippled borders and opening to a silver-gilt grille having simple hole piercing and engraved with foliate motifs. Hallmarked Birmingham 1799, maker's mark probably JS. Length measuring 2.8 cm, gross weight 8 grams.

The vinaigrette displays some tarnishing and expected surface wear, marks and scratches consistent with the age and use. Several dints and bumps and some rubbing and loss of detail to stippled decoration. Hinges appear in good working order, however seam lines are visible around the main hinge. Some fading to gilded interior and some heavier scratches visible. Hallmarks are rubbed and a little distorted but mostly legible.
