Lot 5

Lot Description

A George III silver bachelor teapot, the plain squat form with short spout and oblong footed base, with fruitwood handle and finial to the slightly domed and hinged lid. Hallmarked London, probably 1809 and attributed to  William Bennett. Maximum length measuring 7 1/2 inches (19 cm), gross weight 10.03 ozt (312 grams).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The teapot displays general surface wear and tarnishing consistent with the age and use. Some heavier staining to interior and would benefit from a clean and polish. General surface scratches and marks, also some minor dints and bumps and knocks to edges. Hinged lid appears in working order with corresponding part hallmarks. Hinges a little loose with some sideways movement. Some solder lines visible around hinges and slight losses to silver. Fixing pins to handle are present, however there are gaps visible between the silver mounts and wood section. The full hallmarks are located to the underside and are clear and legible.
