Lot 53

Lot Description

A Victorian silver mounted glass claret jug, the clear glass body of circular flask form and etched with leafy branches to both sides, the short cylindrical neck with applied silver collar also engraved with leaf motifs, having an applied loop handle and a similarly etched bulbous stopper. Hallmarked Hawksworth, Eyre & Co (Charles Hawksworth & John Eyre), Sheffield 1868. Maximum height inclusive of stopper measuring 9 3/4 inches (24.8 cm).

Postage: Not Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The claret jug appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. The silver collar mount appears tarnished and would benefit from a clean and polish. A few surface nicks to the glass body and stopper and some heavier scratches and contact marks to the underside of the base. Chips to the base of the handle. Some light rubbing to hallmarks but still clearly legible.
