Lot Description

A George IV silver sauce ladle, of plain typical form, hallmarked Edward Thomason, Birmingham 1822, length measures 6 1/2 inches (16 cm). Together with a pair of Georgian silver sugar nips, with ring handles, shell bowls and engraved initials, assumed London, maker's marks for Michael Plummer alongside the lion passant, and a small circular Dutch box with removable lid, beaded rims and flat chased scenes of figures outdoors, marked with Dutch assay marks. Gross weight 3.8 ozt (120.2 grams). (3).

In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The sugar nips appear slightly out of alignment, the centre is engraved with the initials 'M R', possible solder repair to the stem near the centre swivel, assumed London and marked only with the maker's mark for Michael Plummer and the lion passant to each ring handle. Remnants of polish visible to the Dutch box, minor loss of definition to the decoration, marked with Dutch assay marks to the base, including the key mark, some of which are slightly obscured/worn. Other hallmarks clear and legible.
