Lot 14

Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver goblet, the tapering bowl decorated with floral swags and raised on a cylindrical knopped stem to a spread circular base with similar floral motifs, and beaded border detail throughout. Hallmarked Mappin Brothers (Edward & Joseph Mappin), London 1868. Height measuring 5 3/4 inches (14.5 cm), weight 4.95 ozt (154 grams).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The goblet displays some tarnishing and surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. A couple of minor dints to rims. On the main rim there is a slight split and break to one area of the beaded edge so that it is coming away from the main body. Possible small solder repair to another section. Decoration appears fairly crisp with only slight loss of surface detail. Hallmarks located just below the rim, some rubbing but still clearly legible. Also impressed to the underside of the foot with the sun motif and maker's name and address.
