A Portuguese silver desk set comprising a pair of book ends of typical form with concentric bands, a similarly decorated inkstand with two hinged circular inkwells with removable ceramic liners, the curved recesses holding a paperknife and dip pen, a letter holder of serpentine outline with two compartments and raised upon a curved base with two recesses, an ink blotter with semi-circular wooden base with rectangular mount and knopped handle and a circular ashtray with four indented rests, marked with Portuguese assay marks including Lisbon for .833 fineness, further marked 'JOALHARIA DO CARMO LISBOA'. Together with a Portuguese silver table lighter and ashtray (a/f), the spherical body with removable lid and raised upon a circular base with three applied rests, marked with Portuguese boar standard marks for Lisbon for .833 fineness alongside a further indistinct mark.
