Lot Description

A continental gilt metal and agate pedestal salt, the dished agate bowl within scalloped rim mount and twin scroll handles and raised on a cherub stem to a slightly domed and shaped base, with engraved foliate scroll motifs throughout. Appears unmarked. Maximum height including handles measuring 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm).

The salt appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches and some tarnishing to the metal mounts. The agate bowl moves slightly in the mount. Some dark staining and residues of dirt to the underside of the base. The base also has two drilled holes. The metal has been tested in various places and ranges from 38.98% to 51 % gold (approximately 9 to 12 carat).
