Lot 294

Lot Description

A selection of items to include an early twentieth century silver cigarette case, of oblong slightly curved form with diagonally engraved foliate scrolls to either side and engraved monogram to the front, hallmarked Joseph Gloster Ltd., Birmingham 1917, width measuring 2 4/8 inches (6.8 cm). Together with a Dutch silver sifter spoon, the semi-circular bowl with simple drilled holes and pierced square surround with various outdoor scenes, leading to a pierced terminal of the Netherland coat of arms, marked with Dutch assay marks alongside a maker's mark 'H H', a late Victorian silver combination propelling pencil and pen, hallmarked Sampson Mordan & Co., London 1897, a further Sampson Mordan silver propelling pencil with inset paste stone to the terminal, a George V silver stamp case (a/f), etc. Gross weighable silver 7.4 ozt (231.3 grams).

In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Duty assay marks on the sifter spoon include the Minerva head duty mark, lion passant and date letter for 1923, visible signs of repair around the join of the stem with some crude solder either side causing loss of definition to the decoration. The retractable function on the combination propelling pencil is difficult to push up and down, the other propelling pencil appears in good working order. The stamp case has a significant split along the hinged piece which has crude signs of repair, the case does not shut flush and the hinge is not aligned, requires attention. Significant losses to the enamel on the small folding knife. Most pieces would benefit from a clean and polish. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible. This lot may have export issues, for customers outside of the EU, please note that it is the buyers responsibility to adhere to any import/export requirements.
