Lot 304

Lot Description

A late Victorian silver mounted card case, of oblong rounded form with engraved scrolls surrounding twin opposed vacant cartouches, opening to reveal a material lined interior with small pocket, hallmarked Birmingham 1898, maker's mark probably Joseph Hawkins, length measuring 4 inches (10.5 cm). Together with a late Victorian silver cheroot case, of plain tapered form, hallmarked Chester 1900, opening to reveal a 9ct gold mounted amber cheroot holder, an extendable propelling pencil with inset monogrammed paste stone terminal, a small circular pot and a Wilkinson Sword boxed razor. Gross weighable silver 4.9 ozt (155.3 grams). (6).

Total lot weight: No

In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The lining in the card case appears to have possibly been later added as it is quite crudely cut around the edge or it possibly had an interior ivory page which is missing for an aide memoire, the case shuts securely but it slightly squashed causing an overlap of the two pieces along the bottom edge, minor bump to the corner. The silver cheroot case has a small hole/crack to the front. The amber cheroot has some minor nibbles. The propelling pencil is marked 'J. Longmore & Co., Patent London', the extendable and retractable functions are in good working order. The small pot does not appear to open, it has a noticeable bumps and dents around the base rim, marked 'Child & Child London SW' beneath the base. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
