Lot Description

A selection of novelty items to include a late Victorian silver lipstick holder of plain oblong form, opening to reveal an inner rim compartment, hallmarked Birmingham 1900, maker's mark partly obscured and distorted possibly Horton & Allday, length measuring 5.8 cm. Together with an Edwardian silver sovereign holder (a/f), of circular engine-turned form with vacant cartouche, the press release case opening to reveal an engine-turned sprung platform holder for a full sovereign, hallmarked Birmingham 1908, an Edwardian silver matchbox holder, of oblong form with embossed floral and scroll motifs surrounding a vacant cartouche and raised upon four ball feet, a George V silver compact case with inset interior mirror, a 1940's silver mounted comb and sleeve and a pair of base metal spurs. Gross weighable silver 2.8 ozt (89.4 grams). (6).

In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The lipstick holder is marked 'RD 35247?' to the inner rim compartment. The press release to open the sovereign holder is not in working order, the sprung platform holder appears in good order. Minor bumps to the compact case. The spurs are marked 'Victoria silver' but they test as cupro-nickel. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
