Lot 379

Lot Description

A novelty silver mounted cigar cutter modelled as a tennis racket, with a movable ball terminal forming the handle to the enclosed cutting blade, with suspension loop. Hallmarked to handle Birmingham, probably William Oliver 1887. Length with blade down measures 5cm and with blade up 6cm.

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The racket displays some tarnishing and general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Several surface nicks and little dints throughout. Residues of dirt or polish around the strings. The cutting blade feels quite loose but moves up and down well, a couple of dints to cutting edge. Probably a steel blade? Small split to the rim at the top of the handle. Hallmarks are through the ribbed decoration on the handle and therefore difficult to read accurately.
