Lot Description

A late Victorian 9ct gold cigarette case, the rounded rectangular form slightly curved and intricately engraved throughout with foliate scrolls, initialled circular panel to the front and opening to a plain interior with elastic straps. Hallmarked Birmingham 1895 with maker's mark 'M&M'. Measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) by 2 5/8 inches (6.5 cm), gross weight 81.7 grams.

Total lot weight: No

The case appears in good overall condition, displaying some expected surface wear, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. There is also some tarnishing and it would benefit from a clean and polish. It was possibly rose coloured all over but now yellow is showing through around the hinges and through areas of the decoration. Hinge and clasp appear in good working order and it closes well. Elastic straps in good order. Hallmarks are clear and legible, maker's mark a little rubbed.
