Lot Description

A George IV silver vinaigrette, the rounded rectangular form decorated with foliate motifs within punched and stippled borders, the hinged lid also with centrally engraved monogram and opening to a silver-gilt grille having similar leaf decoration with simple drilled holes (grille hinges a.f). Hallmarked Thomas Newbold, Birmingham 1826. Measuring 3 cm by 2cm, weight 9.5 grams.

Displaying general tarnishing and surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Some heavier wear around edges and corners including a couple of minor dints and rim split. Main hinges appear in working order although there is a slight overlap when closed. Grille hinges are broken and require attention. Some dirt/residue to interior. Hallmarks are rubbed but still clearly legible. Grille marked with lion passant.
