Lot Description
A late Victorian silver vesta case, of oblong form with engraved foliate motifs surrounding a vacant central cartouche, hallmarked Birmingham 1898, maker's mark obscured, width measures 3.2 cm. Together with an Edwardian silver vesta case, of oblong form with inlaid enamelled arms and motto 'Dura Virum Nutrix' for Sedbergh School, hallmarked Chester 1901, maker's mark probably William Neale & Sons, plus a 1940's silver cigarette case, of oblong canted form with engine-turned and reeded decoration surrounding a vacant corner cartouche, hallmarked Birmingham 1946. Condition Report
In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minor bumps to the Victorian vesta case, the striker is also worn more to one end. Noticeable surface scratches to the top of the Edwardian vesta case, the enamel appears a little dull and worn, the hinge is loose with some sideways movement and does not shut securely. Minor loss of definition to the decoration on the cigarette case, particularly around the corners, some heavier tarnish marks, would benefit from a clean. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
