Lot Description

A cased early Victorian Scottish silver Breadalbane Medal, for Marischal College and University Aberdeen Session 1842-43, awarded in the Anatomy Class to James Milne, within a thistle border and foliate mount with suspension loop. Hallmarked to the central medallion only Edinburgh 1842. Diameter including mount measuring 2 3/8 inches (6 cm), gross weight 1.26 ozt (39.4 grams).

Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Some tarnishing, especially visible around the outer edge of the thistle border. Some visible solder marks around the join of the medal to the border. The hallmarks are clear and legible. Thistle mount appears unmarked but tests as approximately 93-94% silver.
