Lot Description

A late Victorian silver tankard, of circular slightly tapered form with stepped skirted base, the domed hinged lid leading to a fluted thumb-piece and scroll handle with heart shape terminal, engraved with multiple presentation inscriptions for 'The Edgbaston Golf Club Ltd'. Hallmarked Atkin Brothers, Sheffield 1899. Height measuring 7 inches (18 cm), weight 20.7 ozt (645 grams).

Total lot weight: No

In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The rim of the lid is slightly distorted causing it to lift and not sit flush, it also means the lid s stiff to open and close. Noticeable dent to the scroll handle. Multiple presentation inscriptions include winners names and dates, main inscription reads 'Presented to THE EDGBASTON GOLF CLUB Ltd by the President, F. W. Lowe, ESQre M.P. 1900'. Would benefit from a clean and polish. Maker's mark slightly worn but still legible, other hallmarks clear and legible, partial hallmarks to the lid.
