Lot Description

An early George III silver cream jug, the bellied form with shaped rim above fluting, floral embossed decoration and vacant cartouche, with foliate capped scroll handle and raised on three stepped hoof feet. Hallmarked London, date letter worn probably 1762, maker's mark also rubbed, possibly SM or WS. Maximum height measuring 3 7/8 inches (10 cm), weight 2.69 ozt (83.7 grams).

The cream jug displays some tarnishing and general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Minor surface dints/bumps. Rim splits visible around the join of the handle to the main body. Further repairs/restoration to cartouche and areas of embossed decoration. Hallmarks are located to underside of main body and are quite heavily rubbed.
